The most ancient buildings in the world

Top 10 oldest structures in the world.

Every day, walking in downtown St. Petersburg, I pay attention to the sights of our city, which, of course, everyone is familiar with:

St. Isaac’s Cathedral,

Alexander column,

Marble castle,

Engineer castle.

All of them were built a very long time, they cannot yet be counted among the most ancient buildings . but so much time had passed, and they never lost their appeal and beauty.

At the same time, if you just go deeper into the city you can see buildings, which in appearance can be called the most ancient buildings, though they were built a few decades ago.

Even possible not to go, every day, almost everywhere you can hear about dilapidated housing. Sometimes even buying an apartment in a new building next year manifest flaws, which are hazardous to life to stay in these apartments.

I was wondering what the most ancient structure in the world?

The most ancient buildings in the world

When I published the post “Master class on stone Choppa “, perhaps by the way that such tools are used and for the construction of the oldest buildings in the world, Alexander aboutcommentswith erowal it (the post) and we had an interesting correspondence, which suggested the idea and I decided to publish the Top 10 oldest structures in the world.

To retain interest until the very last moment, decided to start from the end.

Not going to break tradition and start with 10.

The most ancient buildings – 10th place!

10 place in the ranking of the most ancient structures in the world took the Royal Tomb, located 320 metres from the shores of the Eastern coast of the province of Scania in southern Sweden.

Most interesting is that it was built in the bronze age over 3000 years ago. And after the recovery of domestic premises were found on the stones image

ships, and even

the chariot is pulled by 2 horses.

A Royal Tomb was discovered by the archaeologist Gustav Danny Boyle (1880 – 1962), and excavations have been conducted since 1931.

The most ancient buildings – 9th place!

Moving on.

And on the 9th place in our ranking of the most ancient buildings, is the tomb of the tomb of Calumny-de Tudons in the city of Minorca in Spain.

The tomb was built 3,200 years ago and was used between 1200 and 750 BC, it was Built in the form of the usual upturned boats of stone blocks

It was found in 1975, there were found bronze bracelets and ceramic buttons.

Now it is fully restored and open for visits. This is one of the main symbols and attractions of Menorca.

The most ancient buildings – 8th place!

The Treasury of Atreus or Tomb of Agamemnon, built in the ancient city of Mycenae (Greece) during the bronze age around 1250 years BC, more than 3250 years ago and takes 8th place in the ranking of the most ancient buildings of the world.

The Treasury of Atreus, due to its grandeur and monumental in form, is one of the most impressive monuments surviving from Mycenaean Greece. For instance, lintels over walkways weigh over 120 tons.

The most ancient buildings – 7th place!

7th place in the ranking of the most ancient buildings got coral Is a large ancient settlement in Peru, and the oldest city of America.

The coral was Inhabited between roughly 2600 BC and 2000 BC is more than 4,600 years ago. And of itsterritory in 60 hectares of 19 pyramids.

Most interesting is that during archeological excavations were found jewelry made from stone beads necklaces, musical instruments and much more, but absolutely no weapons. This means that this is one of the most ancient cities was peaceful and most likely its inhabitants are engaged in trade

The most ancient structure – the 6th place!

The pyramid of Djoser in Egypt is the oldest stone building in the world.

It was built about 3000 years BC is more than 4,700 years ago and consisted of six levels arranged on top of each other. The total height of the Djoser pyramid is 62 meters.

And it holds the 6th place in our rating of the most ancient buildings:

The most ancient buildings – 5th place!

And again Kurgan. On line 5 of the top 10 ancient structures in the world I posted Hulbjerg mound, located on the southern tip of the island Langeland.

Most interesting is that Hulbjerg the Tomb was built 5000 years ago. It is fully collected from 13 blocks of stone fit exactly to each other.

The most ancient buildings – 4th place!

Newgrange is a prehistoric monument, is under ochrana UNESCO and is located in County Meath, in Eastern Ireland. about one kilometre North of the river Boyne.

It was built about 3200 BC is 5 more than 100 years ago.

Today, Newgrange is a popular tourist destination.

The walls of the passages made up of large stone slabs, twenty-two of which are on the West side and twenty-Odin in the East. Wysocka stone sides averages about 1.5 meters in height; stone carving adorns many blocks.

In our rating of the most ancient buildings of Newgrange in 4th place.

The most ancient buildings – 3rd place!

With each line we are getting closer and closer to first place. And deeper and deeper immersed in the story.

So, the three leaders of the rating of the most ancient structures in the world opens Monte d”Accoddi – archaeologists who discovered the object, describe it as an altar – Shrine, built in the form of an ancient step pyramid.

Built Monte d”Accoddi in the North of Sardinia. between Sassari and Porto Torres about 2700 – 2000 BC is about 5,200 years old.

The most ancient buildings – 2nd place!

We are one step to the leader of our rating and the second line is really the ancient structure.

Knap of Howar on the island of Papa Westray in Orkney (Scotland), about 5,500 years ago in the period from 3700 -2800 BC was built the manor house Is the oldest stone house in Northern Europe.

The walls of the knap of Howar still stand and support the cornice at a height of 1.6 m, is also preserved stone furniture, which gives a vivid picture of life in this house. Fireplaces, beds, shelves were found almost intact. Just imagine – more than 5000 years, and they are intact!

The most ancient buildings – 1st place!

So, actually, we got to the most ancient buildings of our rating.

And justly occupy the Megalithic temples of Malta is a series of prehistoric monuments in Malta of which seven are located in the world heritage list of UNESCO.

Surprisingly, they were built (think!!) over 5.5 thousand years ago.

Archaeologists believe that these megalithic complexes are the result of local innovations in a process of cultural evolution. The temples were built between 3600 – 3000 BC which was fully functional and remained in use until 2500 BC.

Victor Rodriguez is an architect from Portugal, has made his house out of these stones in 1973 and a huge number of tourists come to look at it. Although his stone house in our rankings for obvious reasons. Look at his creation in the article: “the House of boulders “
